League of Legends (LoL) is a team-based video game where two teams of 5 players in each team are set to compete and destroy their opponent’s base. In the video game, there are champions which are characters played by the players, minions which are AI troops released from the base’s tower that automatically attack the nearest enemy structure, turrets and inhibitors to protect from the opponent’s attack, and monsters with various features to interact in the match, as well as a battlefield called map with lanes and jungles.
LoL is an aggressive video game that requires teamwork and strategies. The complex rules of the game champions with diverse skills, and the set of the map and monsters provide the game with many variables and exciting battle scenes that are both engaging to play and fun to watch.
This guide will introduce LoL in terms of its map, champions, and equipment.
Map Introduction:
In the League of Legends this game, has a total of three roads, the top, mid, and bot. In a team, each path has a different goal and economy to match.
- Top Lane
The top lane champions are mainly tanks. Tank champions distract enemy fire allowing other teammates with high attack output to kill the enemy. The lane phase is essential for this position because the player must be powerful late in the game.
- Jungle
Controlling the jungle ensures you can control rotations, especially in the early stages that determine many match winners and losers. He can accumulate money and experience, eventually allowing him to start sneaking up on people.
- Mid Lane
The mid lane is the output core of the spell attack, and the champion’s output usually has the highest damage value. Champions in this position must use their vision well. Because they usually get sneaked up. Champions with better mobility on the midline can take out waves of minions and wilds with their roaming abilities. Depending on the current situation, they can also move around quickly in different parts of the map. It can also use this feature with the jungle to defeat the enemy in that path.
- Bot Lane
The bot lane is usually played by marksmen and supporters, who develop up for group battle experience while maintaining their state.
Champions classification:
In League of Legends, there is 6 champions classification for summoners to choose from assassin, fighter, mage, marksman, support, and tank. Each type of champion has similar characteristics. I will analyze each of these classifications below:
- Assassin
Assassins are champions who can deal high burst damage to their enemies and have low sustained damage capabilities. They do not have high survivability. There are physical damage assassins and ability power damage assassins in the game. Their common feature is that they all rely on skills.
- Fighter
Fighters have higher survivability and can also inflict higher damage on their enemies. They are more balanced — half-tank, half-damage done champions. Physical damage is the main source of their damage.
- Mage
Mages rely mainly on skill damage. They do not have high survivability but can deal high magic damage to enemies, their attack distance is long.
- Marksman
Marksmen are also called ADC. They have a long attack distance and rely on attack damage. They have the greatest sustained damage capabilities, but their survivability is weak.
- Support
Supports are generally protective champions. In the team, they have to try to protect their teammates from being killed. Generally, they do not do much damage.
- Tank
Tanks are vanguard champions. Their damage is the lowest, but with the highest survivability. They will make the most of the enemy’s damage to their teammates.

The Goal of the Game:
To win the game, the five team members are assigned different roles and will be expected to reach the opponent’s base through at least one lane and destroy the tower in the middle of the base. On the lanes are defense structures that could cause damage to the champions and minions. In order to get to the opponent’s base, the team members need to work together to clear at least one lane by destroying the structures of turrets and inhibitors on that lane. At the same time, they need to prevent the opponents’ from getting to their base and destroying their tower.
The choice of team members would affect the match as different lanes are suited for different team members. For example, the top lane is usually played by tough solo fighters of the teams who would face the most powerful enemy and defend their own base. The choice of champion characters is also an important aspect of the game because different champions possess different skills that work better in different positions on the map. Keep in mind that the power of the champions could be improved by experience to level up and gold to buy equipment.
The areas between the lanes are jungles where neutral monsters like Baron Nashor and Drakes are. Killing these monsters would provide buffs for the team that would increase the whole team’s chance of winning.
